What is an iStent?
Innovative technology has made it possible to treat glaucoma patients with effective procedures that pose fewer risks and have shorter recovery periods. As part of our extensive catalog of MIGS or minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, Clewner & Kelly Eye Center is proud to offer the groundbreaking iStent. The smallest medical device ever approved by the FDA, the iStent creates a tiny opening in the eye's trabecular meshwork to increase the flow of aqueous fluid and help lower intraocular pressure. If you have been diagnosed with glaucoma, contact our glaucoma specialists in Boca Raton, FL, to learn more about the iStent or any of our other minimally invasive options.
What to Expect with iStent
The iStent is generally placed during cataract surgery. Prior to surgery, our team will administer numbing eye drops to ensure you experience as little discomfort as possible during your procedure. The same incision used to remove your cataract will be used to implant the iStent. The tiny titanium device is preloaded into a single-use sterile injector and inserted through the trabecular meshwork and into the Schlemm's canal. Once the iStent is in place, it can increase the flow of aqueous fluid and decrease eye pressure. Following your surgery, your ophthalmologist will require you to make several follow-up appointments so that your intraocular pressure and healing progress can be monitored. If you have further questions about the process, speak to your glaucoma specialist in Boca Raton, FL.
"The staff is always so pleasant. The parking is absolutely awful. Often times there are no places to park and you have to keep driving around the small lot hoping for a spot to open. There’s really no place nearby to park and walk either. The office is always super busy but they are extremely organized. The Dr is kept moving from room to room, patient to patient very efficiently however at times I feel rushed and forget to ask my questions."- K.M. / Google / Mar 18, 2022

"I highly recommend Dr Clewner, I consulted him for a second opinion and he was thorough, knowledgeable, caring and very clear in his explanation."- P.C. / Google / Feb 22, 2022
"Dr. Clewner is the best ophthalmologist I have met. I had my chalazion removed back in 2002 That was done in his clinic with absolutely no issues. I’ve been going to him for several years until I changed my employment to Broward county. Due to distance, I had to change my eye specialist, that was a mistake on my part because I should have stayed with Dr. Clewner all the way. However 3 years ago I decided to go back To see him on an annual basis because he was definitely worth the drive. The staff is incredibly professional and friendly. Roger Romer, the contact lens specialist who also works with them is another great individual to get contacts from. I strongly and highly recommend Dr. Clewner and his clinic. You’ll have to experience it for yourself to see the high quality level of treatment you’ll be receiving."- S.M. / Google / Feb 19, 2022
